Dry Creek Xeriscape

1350 sq ft, 2023. North Hollywood

Installation by homeowners

Though they wanted to remove the lawn, these homeowners definitely didn't want just a solid expanse of mulch or rocks. So they looked to me to help envision their dream front yard. The result is a beautifully balanced combination of ground cover materials that looks amazing even before the plants mature.

Rainwater is re-directed from the roof downspout into the dry creek bed, which captures the water and allows this valuable resource time to percolate into the soil. Due to a combination of rain-capturing topography and highly drought-tolerant plants, an irrigation system is not needed. Just imagine the cost-savings over decades of not running and repairing an irrigation system!

The homeowners were able to install this landscape completely on their own following my detailed instructions, thus saving thousands of dollars. They had a great time and learned a lot in the process. I couldn't be more proud of them!
